The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, PhD, has facilitated the NASENI Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP), which provided sustainable energy solutions to 270 beneficiaries across the state.
The programme, organised by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), was held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Alice Place, Ibadan, Oyo State.
A total of 230 women benefited from clean cookstoves, while 40 men received solar home systems as part of the initiative aimed at promoting access to cleaner and more affordable energy solutions.
The empowerment programme brought together beneficiaries, APC stakeholders, party members and other invited guests.
In an address delivered on his behalf by Asiwaju Yemi Aderibigbe, Director-General of the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Council, Senator Alli commended NASENI for extending the sustainable empowerment initiative to Oyo State.
He described the intervention as a demonstration of NASENI’s commitment to translating science, technology and innovation into practical solutions capable of improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
According to him, the provision of clean cookstoves to 230 women and solar home systems to 40 men represents an approach to empowerment that goes beyond financial assistance by promoting cleaner energy, healthier households, environmental sustainability and improved economic well-being.
Alli particularly commended NASENI for placing women and vulnerable members of society at the centre of its sustainable development intervention.
He noted that, access to clean cooking solutions could help reduce dependence on traditional fuels, improve household health and ease environmental pressure, while solar home systems could provide reliable and affordable energy for domestic and small-scale economic activities.
He said the programme represented an investment in human capacity, energy security, environmental sustainability and inclusive economic development.
The APC candidate also appreciated the NASENI leadership for ensuring that the intervention was inclusive and reached people from diverse backgrounds, including persons with disabilities.
He urged beneficiaries to make responsible use of the equipment provided and become advocates of sustainable energy and community development, while encouraging other stakeholders to support similar initiatives.
Speaking on behalf of NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman, Mr Khalilu Suleiman Halilu, Mr Olusegun Ayeoyenikan said the agency was committed to transforming society through science, technology and engineering innovation.
He explained that NASENI’s objective was to develop tools and technologies capable of making life easier for households while promoting the continuous application of technology to address everyday challenges.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ashaolu Janet expressed appreciation to NASENI and Senator Sharafadeen Alli for the empowerment initiative.
She prayed for the continued success of NASENI and also wished Senator Alli well in his political aspirations.
